One More Reason To Love Chocolate!

Scientific research has proven Chocolate to be a great support for your heart!

Antioxidants in dark chocolate neutralize the process of oxidation and cellular damage which contributes to aging and cardiovascular disease.

Research from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas shows that the same antioxidants in red wine that protect against heart disease are also found in dark chocolate.

Flavonoids in chocolate help to prevent oxidation of the L.D.L. (bad cholesterol) and help also to create blood platelets less sticky reducing the risk of artery-clogging clots.

Now, I don’t want to mislead you, cocoa powder and chocolate syrup are processed and most of their flavonoids have been removed in the process. Also, milk chocolate has less of these beneficial chemicals than dark chocolate does.

The antioxidants in dark chocolate are flavonoids, found in green tea, red wine and some fruits and vegetables such as red bell peppers, strawberries, citrus fruits, broccoli, garlic and spinach.

So, what about having a Chocolate Dip with strawberries to celebrate?

Here is the recipe…

1 cup liquid coconut oil

1 cup Organic Dark chocolate

1 Tbsp. mesquite powder (optional)

1 Tbsp. raw honey (optional)


Grate dark chocolate bar and place it in a glass bowl with the coconut oil. Place the bowl inside a pot with water (keep chocolate and coconut oil away from water). Heat pot at low temperature and stir constantly just to melt chocolate and blend it with the coconut oil. Don’t over heat.

Once dark chocolate and oil are combined, remove from heat and add mesquite and honey.

Use this liquid to dip chilled or frozen strawberries or any fruit of your choice. Enjoy!


You can also add fresh minced peppermint or vanilla extract to create different flavors.

Dip can be stored at fridge for several weeks.
